The Pure Digital Flip Mino is one of the best mini video cameras for the money. You can find the camera at retailers for around $150, a steal for aspiring filmmakers. The Mino is around the size of an iPod classic and strips all the features not absolutely essential to the shooting experience. Professional filmmakers will definitely hate the lack of a light, mic jack, and manual focus but it is a great camera for amateurs looking for a way to start shooting with a simple point and shoot mentality. Keep in mind that the video quality is far from great, but if you want portability the Mino is your camera. YouTube users will appreciate the direct upload to YouTube, MySpace, and AOL.

The Pure Digital Flip Ultra ($130) is the Mino’s predecessor but still is an option when comparing mini cameras. The Ultra is about 40% larger when compared to the Mino, does not have direct upload to YouTube, and runs off AA batteries.

The Creative Vado ($85) is about as cheap as they come. The Vado is identical to the Mino thanks to similar size and weight as well as a 2x digital zoom and upload direct to YouTube. The Vado does add PhotoBucket instead of MySpace and AOL. Many critics have labeled the Vado an even simpler camera meaning a five year old could probably operate it.

If you are wondering about storage, both the Vado and Mino will hold around one hour of footage. The Vado allows two hours of footage through a lower-quality setting.

All in all, experts say the super-cheap mini camcorder shoot better video than on a cell phone but a lesser quality when compared to still cameras which also shoot video.

Cool gadget, good price, but I’m sticking to taking video on my digital camera. Its mic sucks but I’d rather do that than carry around a second gadget.

I have just started getting into photography and would alos like to go on short video production. I would like to begin with a not so expensive gadget and perhaps graduate to a more sophisticated kind as I develop my skills. This low priced mini video cameras maybe just what I need.
